Word Search Word Bank Workshop for Kids

Make a word list before building your own word search. Choose one theme, write words that belong together, then count their letters and check their spelling. This blank planning sheet does not make a letter grid.

Try an original pond theme

For a pond puzzle, you could choose FROG (4 letters), REED (4 letters) and FISH (4 letters). They are different words on one theme, and each fits a short grid. These are examples for planning, not hidden answers from a published puzzle.

  1. Name your theme and choose at least three different words that fit it.
  2. Say and spell each word aloud. Count its letters; use only A-Z letters, with no spaces or punctuation.
  3. Cross out repeats. If a word is longer than 12 letters, replace it with a shorter one before making the puzzle.

Check before building

Do your words share a theme? Are they spelled correctly, different from one another and each 2-12 letters long? The manual word-search maker accepts 3-18 different words made of A-Z letters. You can type your own list there without signing in; the separate AI topic option requires an account.

Ready to use your list? Open the manual word-search maker. For solving practice, read the beginner guide or try the Animals Word Search. Explore vocabulary activity cards or browse all word searches.
