Ingredients

  • 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1¾ cups milk
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Steps

  1. 1

Preheat the waffle iron according to its instructions.

  2. 2

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.

  3. 3

In another bowl, whisk the milk, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla together.

  4. 4

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and whisk until just combined - a few small lumps are fine.

  5. 5

Lightly grease the hot waffle iron.

  6. 6

Pour batter onto the center of the iron (amount depends on your iron's size) and close the lid.

  7. 7

Cook until golden and crisp, usually 3-5 minutes - check your waffle iron's indicator light or timer.

  8. 8

Carefully remove and repeat with the remaining batter.

  9. 9

Serve warm with fruit, syrup, or a dusting of powdered sugar.

Kids can help with:

  • Whisking the dry ingredients together
  • Whisking the wet ingredients together
  • Adding toppings like fruit or syrup once the waffles are plated (an adult handles the hot waffle iron)

Tips & Notes

  • An adult should always handle pouring batter into and removing waffles from a hot iron.
  • Leftover waffles freeze well - pop them in the toaster for a quick reheat another day.
