Add Fractions with Like Denominators
Print 4th grade fraction addition worksheets: join parts of the same whole on fraction bars, add like denominators and break fractions into sums.
Worksheet version 1 of 12. The answer key matches the current version.
All bars are the same whole with equal parts. Shade bar C, then fill in the missing numerator. The denominator stays the same.
1. Shade C to show A + B.
1/4 + 2/4 = ___/4
2. Shade C to show A + B.
2/6 + 3/6 = ___/6
3. Shade C to show A + B.
3/8 + 4/8 = ___/8
4. Shade C to show A + B.
1/3 + 1/3 = ___/3
5. Break A into B and C. Shade the rest of A in C.
4/5 = 2/5 + ___/5
6. Break A into B and C. Shade the rest of A in C.
8/10 = 3/10 + ___/10
About this worksheet
Adding fractions with like denominators means joining parts of the same size from the same whole. Count all the joined parts for the numerator; the denominator stays the same because the size of each part does not change. A fraction can also be broken apart into a sum, such as 5/8 = 2/8 + 3/8.
