Explain Your Match: Printable Pairing Guide

Finished a matching puzzle? Take a second turn: tell someone why each pair fits. This original practice sheet is not an answer key to any published puzzle. Unlike the beginner how-to, it asks you to compare a close choice and give evidence for your decisions.

Three clues, four possible partners

Match each clue to one letter. One partner is a distractor: it looks close, but does not fit the exact words of a clue. Use each chosen partner once.

Clues

  1. 1. Make a mark with graphite that you can erase later.
  2. 2. Join two paper pieces with adhesive from a twist-up tube.
  3. 3. Cut a paper shape along a curved outline.

Partners (shuffled)

  1. A. Scissors
  2. B. Colored pencil
  3. C. Glue stick
  4. D. Pencil

Tell me your evidence

Ask: Which word in the clue helped you decide? What makes the extra partner tempting? Why does it not quite fit? Write or draw your reasons before checking the adult key.
