How to Solve Mazes for Kids

A maze is a path-finding puzzle. Begin at S (start) and trace one continuous route through the light corridors to F (finish). The dark squares are walls: do not cross them or jump diagonally.

Find a way past a dead end

Try this original little maze first. From S, move right twice and down twice. The corridor to your right stops after one square. Back up to the fork, go left, then down twice and right three times to reach F.

The blue line stays on open squares from S to F. The short branch to the right of the fork is a dead end, not a second way to finish.

Your maze checklist

  1. Find the start and finish; follow only open corridors without crossing a wall.
  2. At a fork, try one direction. If it ends at a wall, back up to the fork and try another.
  3. On a maze page, use Show solution to see the path and Hide solution to try again. Print opens a separate printable starting maze with its Answer Key on the next page.
