How to Connect the Dots for Kids

A dot-to-dot puzzle lets you practice number order while drawing. Find dot 1, draw a line to 2, and keep connecting each next number. Do not skip a number or connect dots just because they look close together.

Follow five dots to draw an M

Try this original five-dot example. Start at the lower-left dot 1, draw up to 2, down to 3, up to 4, then down to 5. Four strokes between five dots make two peaks: the letter M.

Trace 1 → 2 → 3 → 4 → 5 in order. Stop at 5; there is no extra line back to 1. Try the blank diagram before looking at the worked path.

Use a full-size puzzle

  1. Find dot 1, then look for dot 2; keep going one number at a time.
  2. On a puzzle page, the picture and connecting line show at first. Turn off Show Lines to hide the connecting line, then turn off Show Image too if you want only the numbered dots. Turn either option back on to check the drawing.
  3. Print on that puzzle page prints its canvas as currently shown. It does not open a separate answer-key page, and the canvas does not check a drawn answer for you.
